Stockport
U14 v Ashton-on-Mersey U14 (5-5)
From the kickoff Ashton had Stockport pinned inside their 22
for the first quarter but were unable to score. In a rare breakout
in the second quarter due to some slack tackling and fine passing
Stockport went the length of one touchline to score an unconverted
try. In the second half there was nothing between the sides.
The Ashton fullback was denied an individual try running from
within his own 22, chipping ahead only to be beaten to the touchdown
by a stride. Five minutes later the same tactic paid off and
the score was leveled. A fine game to watch and a fair result.

Broughton
Park U14 v Ashton-on-Mersey U14 (0-83)
The tone was set as Broughton Park barely touched the ball in
the opening quarter, Ashton forwards and backs combining with
fine driving and passing to score four or five tries in quick
succession. As Broughton Park failed to contain the fast backs
out wide Ashton scored repeatedly before the break. In the second
half the Ashton backs and forwards combined to score at will
despite Broughton Park doggedly sticking to their task. A fine
team performance and morale booster. |
Ashton-on-Mersey
v Marple U14 : 63-0
Despite challenging throughout, the plucky Marple side were
simply unable to deal with a dominant Ashton pack which provided
plenty of ball to score with. A good all-round effort from the
Ashton U14s in all departments against a skilful but light opposition.

Ashton-on-Mersey
v Altrincham Kersal U14 (Cheshire Cup, first round) : 0-41
Ashton could not contain a well organised, aggressive Kersal
side who deflated the home side with two early tries. Kersal
forwards arrived in numbers to win most of the breakdowns and
deny Ashton any ball. When Ashton did win ball it was usually
too deep in their half to attack from. Pressure leading to fumbles
and missed passes caused Ashton to concede further tries. With
their line unthreatened Kersal used their big threequarters
to hammer home the game with tries in the corners. A very disappointing
game.

Caldy
v Ashton-on-Mersey U14 : 12-26
The slippery ball and wet conditions made it a forwards game
and the Ashton forwards took it on, driving well and winning
ruck and maul while Caldy forwards watched.. Two fine solo efforts
from Callum were rewarded with scores and the other two were
built from hugely powerful runs by the forwards. A bity game
with Ashton edging it on forward power. |
